Water is one of the most important elements in life. Water is available naturally and can be obtained as groundwater, rainwater, and others. Natural water contains various types of minerals depending on the origin of the water. Examples of water derived from soil and rocks may contain calcium sulphate minerals (CaSO4), calcium hydrogen carbonate Ca (HCO3) 2, magnesium sulfate (MgSO4), and magnesium hydrogen carbonate Mg (HCO3) 2.
Water containing Ca2 + ions and Mg2 + ions in large quantities is called hard water. Water that contains little or no Ca + and Mg + ions is called soft water.
